When traveling abroad most people don't realize that their personal healthcare policy stops once they cross the border or that, their coverage is less than standard. For this reason, the state department encourages international travelers to purchase short-term medical insurance when they are traveling outside the U.S.
This type of insurance can also be purchased by those who are traveling into the US and would like coverage while they are within the US borders. International Major Medical Health Insurance has been designed to assist those who are temporarily living, attending school, working, or visiting overseas. It covers treatment for Expats with flexibility in terms of choice of doctor and treatment facility, with the ability to receive treatment anywhere within their region of coverage.
While these benefits are great, It is important to note that these type of insurance do have some exclusions; these insurance plans are not subject to, and does not provide certain criteria of the insurance benefits required by, the United State's Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). This insurance does not provide Insurers with minimum essential coverage under ACA. For more details click here.
